CONCOR dispatches over 7,000 containers Mhow- Manmad rail line will help in speedy transportation of containers to all ports
Indore: As many as 12000 containers are being dispatched from Pithampur to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai every month. Out of this Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) alone is engaged in dispatching over 7000 containers. If Mhow-Manmad new rail line project takes shape then this will help in saving transportation time and costs as well. Owing to emergence of the region as a major investment zone of the country a bumper export is likely from here in next few years.
was briefed by officials of different business associations and containers handling agencies here at office of Association of Industries of Madhya Pradesh on Friday while interacting with high ranking officials of Railway India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) Ltd.
Dr Shrikant V Janabandhu, additional general manager of RITES Ltd and RN Das, deputy general manager of RITES arrived in the city to assess economic potential of Mhow-Manmad proposed rail line.
K Srinivasan, senior general manager of CONCOR said that presently they are sending the containers from Pithampur to JNPT only. If Mhow-Manmad project takes shape this will definitely help in saving transporting cost and timing. Presently around 22 container trains are being dispatched from Ratlam to Mumbai. But after the project they would be able to dispatch containers directly from Pithampur to Maharashtra and JNPT bypassing Ratlam and Gujarat.
Harish Chandra Sharma, director operation ICD Dhannad, said that if the new rail line rolls out this will shift transportation of containers from road to railway. That time lines utility would be of utmost importance.
Emphasising utility of the new rail line Nagesh Namjoshi, member, Passenger Amenities Committee of Railway Board, said that this line would help in industrial development of entire area right from Mhow to Shirpur.
Effectively presenting need of the project Goutam Kothari, president Pithampur Audhyogic Sangathan, expressed sadness that due to inordinate delay of over 112 years the cost of the project escalated from Rs 1000 crore to 10,000 crore. He said that there are 32 operation units in SEZ Pithampur, which are registering average export growth rate of around 25% per year. Even when country’s exports dropped by 25% last year, exports registered growth rate from here was at 13%.
Presently containers take 7 to 15 days to reach JNPT, but now proposed rail line will help in reducing transportation time. Owing to strategically central position of the state in future this is going to be a logistic hub of the country, that time the rail line will act as a linkage. The project will reduce distance between Indore-Mumbai by 250 km from 830 km to 580 km; this will be win-win for railway as well as passengers and bookies of containers.
Manoj Marathe of Indore-Manmad Rail Struggle committee and petitioners of the issue in Indore bench of MP High Court urged officials to prepare a factual report on rate of return (ROR) from the proposed project. Earlier, railway officials presented false figures in this regard in HC and tried to mislead the court. Railway officials reported ROR 9-10%, while factual figure estimated for the project is 30.7%. OP Dhoot, president of AIMP, expressed that great potential of industrialization exists in entire MP, particularly from Sendhwa to Shajapur. The project would also help in boosting it further.
RITES Ltd is a government of India enterprise under the aegis of Indian Railways. RITES incorporated in India as a Public Limited Company under the Companies Act, 1956 and is governed by a Board of Directors which include persons of eminence from various sectors of engineering and management. RITES Ltd, an ISO 9001:2008 company, is a multi-disciplinary consultancy organisation in the fields of transport, infrastructure and related technologies.

Rate of Return (RoR) of a project is the single most important parameter which help decide whether the project shall be prifitable/desired or not. It should be a notch above (3-5%) above the rate of inflation so that the project can lay back the cost of construction in due course of time. It should be at least equal to or more than 13%.
One party (IR) pegging RoR of IND-MMR NL project at 9-10 % and other party (Mr. factual ?) claiming it to be 30.7%, are making a mockery of whole project implementation process.
is quite possible that IR officials may not have accounted for all the freight/container traffic from the region, but very high figure of 30.7 % RoR being claimed by other party seems quite improbable.
Even if all the claimed 12000 containers carried by rail, and decent passenger and other freight traffic comes to the section, the 30.7% RoR seems highly improbable.
Even with 9-10% RoR the project should be worth implementing as it will immensely benefit the backward tribal districts like Jhabua, Dhar etc. and bring in other economic benefits not accounted for in the project RoR. State/Central Govts have to take interest in the interest of development of economy and people.
More over, one more line shall have to be laid from MMR-Kalyan (already super saturated section) to carry the traffic forward. Are there any plans in IR for the same?
Again Mumbai-Indore, (CSTM-MMR-258km, MMR-MHOW-339km, MHOW-INDB-21 i.e. total) shall be 618 km and saving shall be 212 km only and not 250km as claimed in the report.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
