Nov 07 2016 (13:25)   Rail fares may be hiked in coming budget

The Indian Railways may increase passenger fare in the coming budget.
According to sources, the ministry is considering a direct increase in the passenger fare as the dynamic fare system introduced in important trains did not help increase revenue on expected lines.
The ministry does not find it logical to increase freight charges, officials said.
“It was anticipated that the flexi-fare system will increase
revenue. However, it is not the case; the revenue is going down. A decline in the number of passengers has also been noticed. So, there are suggestions that fares in the passenger segment be increased,” a railway official said.
According to them, the increase across the board may be the best thing to do.
The railways have increased the cost of rail travel by various changes in the fare structure and refund rules. But, it has not been able to reduce the loss incurred in the passenger segment of the railways.
The data on the income and expenditure of the railways during July-September, the second quarter of the financial year, has shown a reduction in freight revenues,  despite various measures of freight rationalisation.

Won't that be same as not charging superfast fare for trains like those?
Moreover, considering conditions like economy crisis(that is forcing them to increase fare) and mission raftaar in which they want to increase speed, they will never do that.

The trains should run with more punctuality, SF trains should be speeded up by reducing ths slacks.. Instead of dynamic fare system.. they can fix some fare which is higher than SF trains..

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
