BAKARO: At a time when residents are facing cash crunch, train ticket examiners (TTEs) have intensified their drive against passengers travelling without any tickets in trains passing through Bokaro Railway Station under Adra Railway Station. Railway officials say they are accepting the scrapped currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
"There are many ticketless passengers who are making the most out of the currency ban. But we have intensified the drive against them. Since November 9, we have caught at least 50 people, per day, and have slapped a fine on them. A majority of them tried escaping by giving old currency notes but we accepted it," Uttam Kumar, chief commercial inspector, Bokaro Railway, said.
directions from senior divisional commercial manager, Bhaskar, a team of 30 TTEs strengthened their ticket-checking drive in Baidyanath Dham Express, Vananchal Express, Purosottam Express, Maurya Express and other important trains passing through Bokaro railway station. "In the last 10 days, we have caught 485 violators and collected a total of Rs 1.78 lakhs as fine from them," BP Bhuiya, chief ticket inspector, said.
Officials said this apart, they are also keeping an eye on luggages carried by passengers. TTEs have caught several unbooked luggages in trains. "Since November 9, we also caught 162 unbooked luggages and have collected a total fine of Rs 8,850. Though the fine collection has added to the railway earnings, currency crunch has resulted in a decline in passengers travelling in trains," an officer said. Bokaro witnessed a dip from 5,000 to 3,900 passengers on a daily basis. Passengers avoid travelling in trains in such a situation due to money issues. Many have cancelled their reservation tickets. Vendors at stations are also facing cash crunch, which has severely affected their business. The ticket checking drive is expected to continue for few days.

Since Railway counters are unable to receive Rs 1000 & 500 notes for Rs 5 to 50 and exchange 995 to 950 .So passengers prefer ticketless travel.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
