Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called upon Railways to run on track of "gati" (speed) and "pragati" (progress) both, as this is essential in a technology-driven century. Mr Modi was addressing the opening day of Rail Vikas Shivir (Rail Development camp) at Surajkund through video conferencing today. Calling the Indian Railways to change with changing times, the PM said the century has changed and with it the systems in the Railways must also change. "I am confident the team that we have today, can achieve this". There was a need for Railways to develop and become financially strong so that it would benefit the country and specially those working for the organisation, Mr Modi said. Referring to the merging of Railway Budget into the General Budget, the Prime Minister said the focus of the government on Railway Budget was never politics and "we have worked towards a paradigm shift in the...
Railways". Lauding the ideation process and involvement of employees in the development of Railways, he said good ideas could come from anyone and each official was doing their own work which was good but "we also have to work together and think about how we want the Railways to be".
The Prime Minister also talked about his strong association with the Railways since his childhood. "My childhood was spent on rail platforms and that is all the reason, why I want to transform this sector," he said. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu thanked the Prime Minister for inspiring the Railways family and his continued guidance and support in efforts to reform the organisation.
Minister of State for Railways and Minister and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Communications Manoj Sinha, MoS Railways Rajen Gohain and Chairman Railway Board A K Mittal also spoke at the camp.
The three-day brainstorming and planning exercise, the first time in 163 years of the Railways began today. It was being organised at the initiative of the Prime Minister, as an unprecedented milestone mega exercise, involving the entire organisation at all levels, with a view to generate several innovative, yet practical ideas across most critical areas of railway operations for substantial progress of this sector. This exercise with multistage and multidimensional dialogue was taking place involving all railway employees from gangmen to Railway Board Chairman. The camp was being spearheaded by Mr Prabhu, Mr Sinha and Mr Gohain

Today Road sector is carrying that freight also which should ideally be carried by Railways and drastically increasing the logistics costs of our country, much to the detriment of national economy.
But still the investment being done in the rail network expansion is much lesser than the investment in the road sector expansion, which is much more fuel inefficient and environmentally damaging.
So the IR with chocked/ saturated network shall continue to lose its market share and get more and more sidelined and shall be devoid of its due place in
Indian Economy.
Unless the planning of capacity augmentation is done in a way to complement each other rather than the current method of independent planning where the two compete with each other. The inherently inefficient road sector armed with efficient operation and the inherently efficient IR being lamed by inefficient operation.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
