No father should ever have to go through this.
For half an hour, 55-year-old Satyendra Singh heard his daughter Ragini calling for help: “Papa, bachao...Koi hai? Please, bachao...“ The screams grew weaker as the seconds ticked by. Singh wanted to reach out, or at least tell her not to lose hope. But lying crushed under mangled steel, he cou ld only whimper. And hear his daughter draw her last breath inches away.
Somewhere in the twisted mass of metal over him, he knew, was his wife. But there was nothing he could do to
save her. Singh didn't know then that he would be the only one in his coach to survive, his son Ajay told TOI on Monday . His face was twisted in wards and crushed under metal bunks. His nose was fractured and he could barely breathe. His arms and legs were pinned down by twisted metal that pressed down mercilessly every time he exhaled, said a relative. An agonising four hours passed from the time his daughter fell silent to when he was rescued. It was not until Monday morning that he was told his wife Geeta, 54, and daughter were dead. This was a short while before their last rites in Bhopal.
Singh, who was brought in an ambulance to Bhopal from Kanpur, he was laid out on a stretcher in the lane outside his home, the bodies of his wife and daughter on either side.
Sobbing, he put sindoor on his wife's head. He then turned to the left to reach out and bless his daughter, one last time. As hundreds wept, the two bodies were carried away to be cremated and Singh was taken back to hospital for surgery to remove blood clots in his fractured legs.
Ajay , 24, who works in Delhi, told TOI his father, mother and sister had been on their way to Patna to attend a wedding in Hajipur. “I rushed to Kanpur hospital where he was admitted. He told me how agonising it was,“ he said. Singh may have been sleeping when the train lurched violently . “Within moments, everything around began to crash and crumble,“ said Ajay . While Geeta had the middle berth, above Singh, Ragini was on the lower berth across his. From the way the coaches were mangled, it appeared that Geeta may have died instantly , crushed between two berths. “ After a few moments, Ragini di started screaming for help, but my father was helpless,“ Ajay said.

This unfortunate father would have died a hundred deaths while being unable to save/respond to the requests of his dear daughter gradually sinking to death.
May God bless all the bereaved ones with courage and the departed souls with peace.
Speed, convenient & comfortable journey, new trains, vote banks of politicians etc are of no significance before the lost human lives, especially if these are of our near and dear ones.
us hope that this horrible accident will compel IR to change its lackadaisical attitude towards safety, and adequate emphasis shall be laid in future on safety of paxs and trains.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
