The lengths some people will go to take a selfie has been well-documented but this one takes the cake. Akash Gaikwad (25) from Mumbai lay face down on the railway tracks at a crossing near Aurangabad station for a selfie on Monday, even having a few bogies pass over him. The driver had applied the brakes on spotting Gaikwad on the tracks but the train couldn't grind to a halt immediately. Fortunately for Gaikwad, he escaped unhurt.
Clearly not amused by Gaikwad's antics, railway staffers at the crossing and passersby pulled him out from under the train and handed him over to the railway protection force (RPF). The RPF arrested him on charges of attempt to suicide and under sections 147 (trespassing)

and 174 (halting a train) of the Railway Act. He was subsequently released on bail.
RPF officials said Gaikwad, a resident of Malabazar in Chembur, had come to Aurangabad to visit his sister who lives at Silk Mills Colony, which is close to railway gate number 52.Around 8am, he went near the railway crossing and began taking a few selfies. After seeing the Jalna-Demu train arriving, he lay face down on the tracks in an attempt to take a selfie. However, in the scramble, his cellphone fell from his hands but he stayed put on the tracks.
Railway authorities said this was the first time they had received such a case. They said the train passengers were left stranded at the crossing for more than half an hour following the incident. The RPF officials have now asked for increased patrolling of the railway tracks to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
