Information on passenger amenities at railway stations will be at the fingertips of Western Railway (WR) commuters soon.
Travellers will be able to track the location of toilets, foot-overbridges, parking lots through a cellphone app at suburban stations.
“We are is in the process of commissioning `Disha', a firstof-its-kind mobile app, to improve passenger experience at the stations. The app is being developed and its launch may take place within the next 15 to 30 days,“ said Mukul Jain, WR divisional manager. A senior WR official added, “In future, we are planning to
have a navigation feature like in Google Maps, which will guide travellers to access the amenities.“
The app will have the other features like the location of the nearest police station, hospital.The software will be able to function on an offline mode for Android and IOS applications.Commuters will able download the app using Google Playstore.
“The reason this app is being commissioned is because many people are unaware about important amenities like parking location, escalators or even restrooms. Many commuters are misled by co-passengers when they ask for information,“ said an official. Rajesh Jain, a regular commuter, said, “It is good initiative but WR should also allow information like availability and booking of parking space through this app.“
