Just hope Kolkata & Mumbai suburban fares are raised by atleast 2.2 times & MST tkts are increased by 2.6 times for better utilization of resources. Also punctuality of these two section should be set as benchmark eg for other zonal rlys & any Rlys devating from such punctuality must be penalized heavily

It is impractical to wipe out subsidy in a single stroke by doubling/ trebling the fares.
It is to be done in steps so that people are in a position to bear it and gradually become habitual of paying somewhat realistic fares.
% recovery of costing for Mumbai suburban should be better , Since it was giving good operational surpluses earlier, the recovery should be much better.

Recently while buying a UTS tkt in Kolkata Suburban I saw the msg printed that IR recovers only 36% of cost of travel on avg in Suburban sector. I assume that grossly tells the picture of Kolkata, Mumbai & Chennai Suburban. So increasing the slabs of MST has become an urgent necessity.

It would be interesting to know the recovery by IR for individual suburban sectors. It may reveal many interesting facts.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
