Distance between Ernakulam and Delhi in
Duronto - 2943 km and Kerela Express - 2816 km
However, please note that the Duronto Express runs via Konkan railway route, in which the distances are inflated to charge more from passengers. So actual distance travelled by Duronto Express may be only around 2700 kms. So the route via Konkan railway is actually the shortest route.

@anon: Re# 23137-5
For more detailes, plz refer to blog entry # 18422.
The actual km jack up in distance for a train throughout Konkan Route is 304 kms ( Actual Konkan Route of 760 kms is inflated by 40% i.e. by 304 kms and it's shown in the time table as 1064 kms (for fare calculation purposes only).
So the

actual distance in Kerala Express ..... 2816 kms
And the actual distance in Duronto is ..... 2639 kms ( 2943 km less 304 km inflation)
So the net distance saving via Konkan route is 177 kms.
Plus the benefit of elevation throughout the train route - very necessary for speed increase.

Niz-Ernakulam Duronto should be go through via
" Kerala Express " route, Because it is fully electric line and also double line. But in konkan route , Panvel to Mangalore Single line without electricfication and Mangalore to Shornnur is Double line without electrification.

Apart from our view points, at the end , its all for the Rail Mantralaya to decide the route. All such suggestion need to be submitted to the Zonal Rlys or Rail Mantralaya and then followed vigourously . By doing so, you will come to know the Rly logics for the current via Konkan route.

    These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
