PATNA: In a major decision, the Railway Board has decided to stop the operation of both passenger and goods trains on the Dhanbad-Chandrapura section of Dhanbad division under East Central Railway (ECR) from June 15 due to fire and subsidence of soil in the Jharia and Raniganj coalfield areas. The decision has been taken on the recommendation of director general (DG) of mines safety.
ECR CPRO A K Rajak said the DG inspected the vulnerable areas falling in seven minefields namely Busserya, Sendra Bansjore, Katras Choutidih, AKMMC, New Akashkinare, South Govindpur and Teturra. His report said these coalfield areas stretching over 14 kilometres are not safe, he said.
said the movement of about 20 pairs of mail and express trains and six pairs of other passenger trains running on the Dhanbad–Chandrapura section daily would be diverted. He said about 20,000 daily passengers on the route would be hit hard due to sudden closure of the section from June 15. Railways would suffer a revenue loss to the tune of about Rs3,000 crore annually. Railways was earning about Rs2,500 crore from goods and Rs500 crore from passenger trains every year from this particular section, he said.
According to sources, the board has asked the Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES), an engineering consultancy wing of railways, to find out an alternative route to Dhanbad-Chandrapura route so that passengers could not suffer for long. The RITES had earlier submitted a report to the railway ministry in 2015 to find out an alternative route to Dhanbad- Chandrapura route due to recurrence of such hindrances, but nothing much could be done so far, said a source.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
