MUMBAI: In yet another incident, an iron rod was spotted on track by an alert motorman between Vasai and Nallasopara stations and a possible mishap was averted on Saturday night.
Whatever the reason was deliberate or accidental, the actions of the motorman need to be acknowledged!
The motorman got down along with the guard, Ramvachan Singh, and the two ensured that the iron rod was taken off the track and kept in the driver cabin before being handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for investigations. A senior railway official
denied there was any attempt of "sabotage" on tracks. "There is no need to panic. First, it was not a rail piece, but an iron rod and we believe it belonged to a nearby construction site. There has been some repair/construction work going on at a bridge en route,'' the official stated, adding that the RPF will conduct further probe.

How does the use of a rod belonging to a nearby construction/repair site ensures us that it can not be used for sabotaging the railway operations?
There are safety norms for every construction activity and none of them prescribe to keep the heavy construction material including roads on an operational railway track.

To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
