The first Humsafar train was launched on December 16 last year between Gorakhpur and Anand Vihar. The cost of a Humsafar AC 3 Tier coach Rs 2.58 crores, as compared to Rs.2.39 crores for a normal LHB AC 3 Tier coach.
Mumbai, June 15: Fulfilling the long-pending demands of passengers, Indian Railways has revamped the Humsafar Express and new features have been added to enhance passenger comfort. Humsafar Express, the specially-designed air-conditioned trains have witnessed a historical change by receiving an upgrade of Rs 20 lakh per coach. However, with this new upgrade, Indian Railways is not planning to revise ticket prices as of now much to the comfort of common man. In his Budget Speech of 2016-17, Union Railway Minister
Suresh Prabhu had announced the introduction of Humsafar Express and within months Indian Railways has given the Humsafar Express a new, dynamic look.  Prabhu who is visiting Vijayawada today and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu will be flagging off 2 trains of Humsafar Express namely train no. 22705/22706 Tirupati-Jammutawi & train no 20889/20890 Howrah- Vijaywada Humsafar train. The remaining Humsafar trains will also be introduced in due course of time. The Vijayawada–Howrah Superfast Humsafar Express (Train No. 00890) will depart Vijayawada at 12:30 pm on June 15 and arrive at Howrah at 8.15 am on June 16. Prabhu who inspected the new rake of Humsafar Express with additional features on Wednesday at Delhi Safdarjung Railway Stations said, “Humsafar trains are already running and we have got feedback from the passengers. So based on that, we have improved the facilities further by providing additional features”.
Here are the additional features of Humsafar’s new rake: Single Piece Side Lower Berth (previously 2 pieces) Mobile Charging point for each berth including USB charging points. Previously there were only 3 points for 8 passengers) Reading light for each berth (previously only the lower berths had reading lights) Convenient upper berth climbing arrangement Urinal in 2 toilets per coach The train has Global Positioning System (GPS) based Passenger information system, passenger announcement, fire and smoke detection and suppression system. Baby Nappy Changing Pad in 2 toilets per coach Display Monitor Screen for the CCTV installed in the coach. Dustbins in each bay inside the coach. In addition to these, all the existing features of Humsafar Express coaches will continue to be available, some of which are listed below: Aesthetically pleasing colour scheme with anti-graffiti coating and distinctive 3D  numbering on the exterior. Pleasing interiors with attractive and colourfully coordinated seats, berths, partitions, curtains, improved/hygienic toilets, film type mirrors, etc. Deodorizer, Dustbins, Sleek bottle holders in the cabins Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance of the common areas of the coaches. Integrated Braille displays for the visually impaired and hygienic lavatories with odour flushing system Passenger announcement system Fire and Smoke detection system in the coaches. Fire detection and suppression system in the Power cars Equipped with Auto Vending Machine and Mini Pantry with Oven/Fridge
Howrah-Vijayawada-Howrah Express On an inaugural day, the Howrah-Vijayawada-Howrah Weekly Humsafar Express will run as special train (00890) from Vijayawada o­n 15.06.17 and will run o­n open fast timings, leaving Vijayawada at 12.30 hrs and reach Howrah at 08.15 hrs o­n the next day. This pair of train will have 16 AC-3 Tier Coaches with Pantry Car facility and will stop at Kharagpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry stations enroute. The Howrah-Vijayawada (20889) Weekly Humsafar Express leaving Howrah every Saturday at 12:40 hrs will reach Vijayawada at 07:45 hours, the next day. In the return direction, the Weekly Vijayawada-Howrah Humsafar Express (20890) will leave Vijayawada every Sunday at 23:05 hours arriving Howrah at 18:30 hours, the next day. The fares of Humsafar Express are around 15-20% higher compared to normal AC-3 tier trains. A total of 11 Humsafar trains have been announced by the Ministry of Railways in the new time table. Of these, 6 trains of Humsafar Express namely;  12595/12596 Gorakhpur- Anand Vihar; 12503/12504 Kamakhya- Bangalore Cantt; 22887/22888 Howrah- Yesvantpur, 14715/14716 Sriganganagar- Tiruchchirapalli, 22867/22868 Durg- Nizamuddin, 22919/22920 Ahmedabad- Chennai Central have been running with a composition of 16 AC 3 Tier coaches and 2 Power cars. Meanwhile, during the current financial year, ten Humsafar rakes are planned to be manufactured at Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli and Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.
