ALLAHABAD: The city would witness Ardh Kumbh, the mammoth religious gathering on the banks of Sangam in 2019. The six satellite stations around Allahabad junction would become the focal point and serve the devotees coming to the city from several parts of the country and abroad.
The railway authorities would enhance facilities at Subedarganj, Prayag, Allahabad City (Rambagh), Naini, Cheeoki or Jhunsi, stations.
The authorities of NCR have chalked out a proposal for enhancing the amenities at Subedarganj station, work on which has already began. With funds of over Rs 44 crore, the
authorities are enhancing the circulating area of the station, besides developing the building. A new overhead tank, bench, toilets, water booths and hydrant pipeline are among the facilities which would go miles to establish Subedarganj as another important station of the city. Going with the past record, where around 15 lakh additional pilgrims used the amenities provided by us in the last Maha Kumbh for which 750 special trains, with around 800 additional coaches were used, railways are gearing up for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh too in which the numbers of passengers goes up in lakh on major bathing days, NCR spokesman Amit Malviya said. The pedestrian bridge of Line Shah Baba on platform number 1, would be broadened and the number of points to fill water in coaches would be enhanced. The authorities are installing 6 elevators at junction to help the elderlies and differently abled persons.
"We would construct 'skywalk' to link all the platforms from 1 to 11. Allahabad Junction would have one more platform (number 11)," another official said. The building of the Allahabad Junction (civil lines side) would be elevated and a multi-storeyed retiring room is in the offing before starting of Ardh Kumbh.
