Preliminary works to lay railway track on three bridges at Kazhuthurutty were already commenced
Thenmala: With the direction of the Railway Board to complete the track laying works from Edamon to Aryankavu before June, trains are likely to chug off on the Aryankavu track from August. Deputy Chief Engineer Shankara Narayanan conducted inspection on the track.
According to sources, preliminary works to lay railway track on three bridges at Kazhuthurutty have begun. As part of the work, concrete sleepers and rails were brought to the worksite. The track laying work is pending at
the tunnels and a few other parts. During the inspection, Deputy Chief Engineer had checked the progress of the work.
Earlier, the Railways had announced that new track would be ready by June. Since the work got delayed, N.K Premachandran MP met Railway Minister and sought immediate intervention to speed up the works.
If the works get over as per the new schedule, packing and trial run can be done in the first week of July and trains are likely to chug off from August.
At present, train service is in place from Edamon to Bhagavatipuram. After completion of track laying work between Aryankavu and Edamon, long distance trains from Kollam will run via Chenkotta. However, the drainage works are still pending.
