The Hindu tries to propose solutions, but its gets branded as anti-national and leftist, commie sponsored newspaper.
The problem lies somewhere else, not with newspapers.
There is only so much the "PR machinery" can do, and when RM and his cronies try to cover their haphazard running of railways by routinely promoting their "twitter achievements" someone is bound to object. In fact, be glad that there are few newspapers and editors/Journalists who haven't prostrated in front of ruling government and try to focus on the gaping flaws in administration rather than gloss over

The twitter redressal system was very innovative step when introduced a couple of years back. But it is time for Indian Railway to stop milking that cow and find permanent solutions instead. Apathy of GRP as stated, along the lines that "take the corpse home and perform the funeral" is an exact example of what Mr Prabhu has been unable to change in his system and thus how he has failed to bring change in the mindset of his officials. Other questions raised by the newspaper are quite valid. No postmortem of dead body, no ticket found with the passenger, referring of a severely bleeding patient to another hospital despite of available treatment, etc. While comparison with provision of milk might seem funny, but it does not hide negligence of Railways.

is wrong to say that the leader at the apex level should not be blamed if officials in the grass root level show poor ethics. No change will be possible, irrespective of how much innovative and honest the leader is, if his officials keep working with "chalta hai" attitude.

* Railway working from operation of trains to maintenance of stations/tracks to pax. grievance etc are far from perfect and no human can change it within a span of some years.
* Mr Prabhu have taken many tough steps and policy decisions for long term benefit of IR like Delegation of financial/decision-making powers to GMs/DRMs, accounting reforms, brisk capacity augmentation/ electrification/ modernisation, etc., which past RMs desisted to take. He has also taken steps to give more facilities to more stations/paxs.
* Change working culture of Rly employees

at grass root level is extremely difficult task and none so far could make much headway including Mr. Prabhu.
* Starting "twitter help" was a big step and continuing the same with vigour for years is still a bigger achievement. As long as they continue giving the facility they deserve the credit.

"twitter help" in many cases is the duty of IR towards its passengers. In some cases, it provides means to correct fault in system. Refilling of water, repair of any electric switch etc is nothing but an opportunity to correct mistakes that has caused inconvenience to passengers. Things like providing medical attention also comes as a responsibility of Railways because it functions under the Government of India. It is the duty of Government to provide facilities and work for betterment of the citizens. I donot see any favor done by Railways that I should give them credit for eternity!
A mistake that is repeated on and on needs no credit at all. Twitter redressal was made, but despite of redundant nature of

complaints, there is no effective measure taken to check repetitive complaints. Surely, you can keep giving them credit for as many years as you want, but I believe that enacting a system for reduction in complaint is more necessary and important than leaving them at the one attending them.
Change in the work culture at grass root level should be a priority as they are the officials who directly affect passengers. RM, RB members, DRMs and GMs are policy makers and managers. Main application is done by lower level officials. Hence, unless that area is touched, no kind of modernisation, reforms etc will be effective at changes in consumer levels. Surely, it will be enough to boast off numbers in the press and gather applause from the section of society that does not use Railways much.
Agreed that Railways working cannot be changed within span of years. But many Railfans here would agree that the indicator is still at the extreme end of disappointment. 3 years is not a small span of time. It is important that while thinking of long term, the problems and woes of passengers, which are now considered as short term(but has stayed for long term itself owing to its past) should not be ignored. Smart decisions are required. Mr Prabhu is applauded at required places and yes he has brought some good reforms in many areas. But the applause given to him is more than what he deserves. Even after 3 years, middle and lower class people suffer as they used to, earlier.
PS: I think you were smart in diverting things completely away from the matter of the parent blog, death of that man and irresponsibility in Railways' behalf.
