Petition submitted to Railway Minister
On behalf of the travelling public in Erode district, a petition calling for implementation of the Erode-Palani project was submitted to Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu during his visit to Coimbatore on Sunday. The petition handed over to the Minister by C.S. for the railway department as well, Mr. Gowthaman said urging the Railways to reconsider and fulfil the project.
The petition also sought a daytime train in the Coimbatore-Chennai sector, at a suitable timing in between the schedules of West Coast and Kovai Express trains for the benefit of students and traders in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode districts.
Also, a regular daytime train from Coimbatore to Rameshwaram via, Tiruppur, Erode and Tiruchirappalli will be very useful for thousands of rail passengers, particularly pilgrims.
Mr. Gowthaman also requested the Ministry to desist from privatising important railway stations in the interests of common people; and to recommend the government for separate financial budget for railways.
Acknowledging the supportive role of Salem Divisional Railway authorities in implementation of projects for public welfare, Mr. Gowthaman pleaded for recruitment of more Railway Protection Force personnel and installation of CCTV systems for Salem railway division to improve the station’s security.
