Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway met Shri Ghanshyam Singh, Member Traction, Railway Board, New Delhi today i.e. 13.07.2017 at Secunderabad, during the course of his visit to the city.
The two officials held discussions on the progress of electrification works on South Central Railway and on the aspect of running of mail/express trains on electric traction in the newly electrified section of Guntakal – Wadi & Secunderabad – Wadi on the Zone. The talks focused on the possibility of running trains with electric traction upto Wadi in coordination with Central Railway, which will result on a significant reduction in the use of diesel locomotives, thereby cutting down on fuel costs as well as pollution. The Member Traction’s intervention on the issue, met a positive response from the Central Railway too.
The Member Traction stressed on the need to maintain the pace of electrification on the railways which will lead to increased running of trains on electric traction, resultantly saving on precious foreign currency spent for importing diesel. He also focused on the other positive gains of speedy electrification on Railways, such as a pollution free network, punctual running of trains on the strength of higher power electric locomotives, potential to add additional coaches and reduce overall running time of trains.
Shri John Thomas, Additional General Manager, SCR; Shri A.A.Phadke, Chief Electrical Engineer and other senior officials of the department on SCR were also present during the meeting and discussions.
