Catering charges ranging from Rs 175 to Rs 340 will be deducted from the total fare if the passenger opts out from the mandatory food options. By Priyanka Rathi | Published: August 4, 2017 3:59 PM IST FollowEmail 50 Shares Facebook share Twitter share Share on Google+ Comments
Indian Railways (File Photo) New Delhi, August 4: Starting from August 1, all Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains with pantry service offered by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have made meal optional. The option is available on 30 trains — five Shatabdi, 13 Duronto and 12 Rajdhani if the ticket is booked after August 1. During the booking of ticket through IRCTC, a passenger can now opt out of the catering facility as there
are three options for meal — veg, non-veg and no food. This would reduce the cost of the tickets on these trains by around Rs 250. But passengers cannot change their option during the journey once they opt out.
Catering charges ranging from Rs 175 to Rs 340 will be deducted from the total fare if the passenger opts out from the mandatory food options. Depending on the journey time, the catering charges are being levied. For train running longer distances, the catering charges are higher. The charges are also different for different classes as well.
The option is, however, not available on Gatimaan Express even though the IRCTC offers catering service on the Delhi-Agra semi-high speed train. The service was earlier available on Nizamuddin-Mumbai August Kranti Rajdhani Express and Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express. The scheme is also available on the superfast Tejas Express from Mumbai to Goa. With e-catering facility also available for passengers, it will be an added advantage for travellers. A passenger can chose meal from a host of outlets — Sagar Ratna, Saravana Bhavan, Bikanervala, Nirula’s, KFC, McDonald’s, Haldiram’s, Domino’s and Pizza Hut — from online catering service.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
