In an attempt to ensure smooth train service, and to safeguard the life of people along the Nagercoil - Thiruvanthapuram- Ernakulam - Shornur section, the railways has sought support and help of persons and land owners living nearby these railway lines to either remove or permit the railways to cut all the trees leaning towards/ over the electrified lines of railways.
Over the past three months, due to incidents related to falling of trees and tree branches touching electrified lines of railways, 14 dislocation of train services were reported.
to a survey conducted by Thiruvananthapuram division, around 2.000 trees were found standing, slanting, and leaning towards electrified lines of railways from nearby private land holdings in Nagercoil - Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam - Shornur sections. The trees standing, slanting, and leaning towards electrified lines not only disrupts the train but also lead to electrocution, it said in a public notice.
