PATNA: The railways has planned to renovate all A1 and A-category stations and make them of international standards.
Patna Junction is not included in the list of stations to be covered in the first phase of the plan. However, Ranchi is among the 23 stations to be revamped in the first phase.
According to a Railway Board official, the railways has invited bids from private players for the purpose. The civil work will start soon after finalising the deal with private agencies, he said, adding all modern facilities on a par with world-class

stations of European countries would be provided at these 23 stations in the first phase.
Besides, a separate Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Ltd (IRSDC) has been set up to give impetus to the station development plan at other major stations. At least 12 stations have been shortlisted for their development in the first phase under this initiative. However, Patna Junction does not figure even in this list of 12 stations.
According to sources, ECR's Patna, Gaya, Mughalsarai, Dhanbad, Muzaffarpur and Barauni stations were earlier listed as targets under the station development plan. The railways had even approved a food plaza outside Patna Junction either at Karbigahiya end or at the main entrance. The plan has not materialised so far.
Thye sources said the IRSDC would undertake projects to develop major stations for their proper commercial exploitation. Restaurants, shopping areas and food plaza are planned to be developed to help the railways earn more revenue from railway premises, the sources said.
The railways had earlier sent letters to the states, seeking their cooperation to develop stations under the IRSDC initiative. The IRCON and Rail Land Development Authority have been assigned the task to complete the first phase of station development plan.

Correct... This decision was based on feasibility studies and willingness of private companies to spend on these Station Projects. Even though Ranchi is a slightly smaller population and a much smaller Railway Station than Patna, however the buying capacity of Ranchi is far ahead to that of Patna. Railways conducted a study of the possibility and paying capacity of average passenger in every station. Patna station currently caters to a very huge percentage of economy passengers. They might have not found takers for such projects. The other indicators the prove this theory are: Ranchi is smaller than Patna but still has larger number of High End Hotels, Has One 5 Star Hotel, Many large scale Malls, 7 Multiplexes, BMW, AUDI and Mercedes Showrooms whereas Patna only has 2 Malls and 1 Multiplex. None of the luxury foreign Car Showrooms are present there. The Railway Station Projects will have High-End Hotels,...

Mall and Multiplex. All of these is hence based on the current demand of such facilities in these cities.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
