line was sanctioned in 1912 and was commissioned in 1917 (probably)
*During that time,Original name of Belmuri was---"Majhergram" or "Jelepara" (bengali word,'jele'=fishermen and 'para'=colony)
*According to inhabtants of Belmuri,"Mahor" (as pronounced by native villagers) worked as labour during construction of this line [Mahor means "inhabitants of Mewar"]
*The primary towns were at Howrah and Barddhaman,hence these people (Mahor) brought Food from Barddhaman----
'Bel' (English:Aegle Marmelos) and 'Muri' (English:Puffed rice)
*Hence they gave the name "Belmuri" to this place
*Later on,Rail board sanctioned the name of "Majhergram" as "Belmuri"
Now you would like to know why the persons of Belmuri,infact most senior persons of Hooghly district HATE to utter the name "Belmuri"...so read this on
*In my family,if I utter the name Belmuri,I get serious scolding from my parents....they say "Abar naam korchis keno"..."Why are u naming it??!"
*Even once I asked my Grandfather about this station,he said "Ami mukhe uchharon korbo na,sudhu banan ta bolbo"...."I shall not pronunciate the name,I shall only tell the spelling"..... according to my Grandfather,uttering the name causes "lack of availability of food"... this may seem weird but NO ACTUAL REASON IS AVAILABLE!!!
NOW,I shall try to elucidate the reason (I am not confirmed,but just trying to analyse the cause)
*What will you feel if U invented something and the credit is taken by someone else??!!
*I GUESS,the same happened here----The native villagers could not tolerate their place being named by "outsiders" (I have said Mahours later named this place and railboard sanctioned the name)
*Hence,to Unpopularise the name "Belmuri",the old ancestors cursed ths name and the tradition still continues as myth
So here I conclude
Apart from this,if anyone can shed some light upon this topic, Please do so,if I made any mistake,excuse me..
