Guntur railway station, Scr:
Came to know from elders that current PFS 3,4 were originally 1&2 with broad gauge towards Vijayawada(bza) and tenali and PFS 5 & 6 were meter gauge towards Guntakal and Macherla aorund 1970s. It had some importance in this phase as it acted as a connecting point. The existing PF 1 & 2 area was goods shed and there was a wall with stoppers infront. The entrance to the station is from the current day Guntur medical college road, you can see the gate now too but is closed in recent areas. The area infront of the station used to be yard with lorries. We can see that Pf4 has some difference from others and ticket counter existed
with FoB to the current Pf3.
However situation changed around 1990s, Nadikudi to Bibinagar line was completed with broad gauge and nadikudi - macherla became a branch line. Also gauge conversion was completed to Guntakal and Nallapadu became junction(it was on Guntakal line earlier.) The station was then developed to the existing state. The goods shed was shifted to reddipalem branching just before Guntur station from bza side which was connected to Guntur-Tenali/Vejendla side.
But again the goods shed has become New Guntur(ngnt) railway station, which was proposed to be near manipuram bridge on Guntur Bza section by the local leadership due to its location in prime area and walkable distance to Guntur bus stand. However railways citing the cost for the new signalling system which was facilitated around using 10Cr rupees made the current Ngnt station.

During the MG era, basic facilities were present at many places like Gadag, Hospet etc. Stem traction indirectly benefited these areas, as steam locos had smaller operational range. so, loco maintenance/stabling facilities and basic coach maintenance facilities were present in many places along the route. In fact, a good number of services were operational even on the remote routes Hospet-Swamihalli. The change to BG removed these vital facilities from many of these places. In the 90's during the SCR/SR time, many of the existing MG services were restarted. But then the focus shifted to improving the connectivity to Bangalore from outside. Most of the developments after GC were mainly directed to this end. GY-Pendekallu chord line was constructed just to reduce the distance to Bangalore from the Northern locations. Until the government's focus shifts to places other than the lucrative business centers like Bangalore, these places will continue to be neglected...
irrespective of the administration.

Thats why old is gold ha ha ha.. That time atleast had some facilities but now nothing only passing stations.
At gadag when their was Loco Shed huge no of ppl in railway colony who were from far away like Secunderabad,Mudnuru,Tadpatri,Kadapa,Rajamudry,Vij aywada,Gudur,Nandyal,Gooty,Solapur and slowly one by one it got closed and at the end their was TXR dept that also split into two and shifted to Hospet and bijapur now @ gadag jn nothing only one IOW,PWI & One ADEN office available. Before Train watering and Loco Running Rooms all were available and also Railway School where i learnt my 1 to 7th Standard but now feels all vanished and school still their but no more students to join it
may close today or tommorrow. Railway Hospital once use to be rush today no railway employees to attend as staff Doctor also come from Hubli and finish duty and go back evening. Gadag & Hotgi jn were once so much polpular but now lost all importance. These stations importance passed away with time and been as history. I heard History will repeat so hope that Gadag Jn gain back all that what it was having in MG Era.

Sir actually I want to write a big blog how gauge affects railways, it was a big problem that was passed on from British era. British laid Madras to Raichur that gave Delhi connection to Chennai( Mumbai Delhi line was via Raichur) a branch line was laid till Bellary and all of it was BG. After wards there was settlement among the British companies and came under a different company where they laid this MG converting already laid BG(till Bellary)and extending it to Vasco and then Bezawada in 1895. Madras Howrah line was not laid yet. However when Nizam laid BG to Bezawada by 1906, it was a shorter route that connected at Wadi to the existing Guntakal line. The Bza- Vasco Mg line that passed through became obselete for transport because of 2 reasons : 1. It was a longer route to Bombay (where largest volume of Indian trade...
was taking place, Vasco was Portuguese and not comparable to Bombay then). 2. Madras Howrah BG line was completed and transport was easy from bza via Wadi, so transportation via this line meant change of goods twice at Bza to MG trains and At Gtl from MG to BG again for transport. Hence this line started being neglected. However as DSP sir mentioned running on steam benefited these trains later.

To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
