I think what I am gonna discuss is not related to railways but this can be very helpful.
Now take for instance Coimbatore and nearby regions like Tirupur, Erode and even Palakkad. These cities do not have enough trains for Delhi. The main trains are Kerala, Swarna Jayanthi and Millennium. Cost of 3A is Rs.2500 appx from CBE. and 2A is 3000+
No Kerala Express is always full with RAC/WL from Tiruppur and Coimbatore side towards Delhi.
From...
more... Coimbatore flights towards DELHI
3 flights of IndiGO, in which 2 are Non-Stop and 1 is 1 stop via Chennai.
1 flight of Jet Airways which goes to Amritsar via Pune, Delhi
1 flight of Air India 1 stop via Chennai
1 flight of Air India Express which is Non-Stop
Now interesting thing is before Air India Express flight was introduced the cost of Air India flight normally was 4500+ sometimes 8000, after Air India Express started the cost of Air India stays around 3000-3300.
Cost of AI Express flight ticket is Rs. 4500
Cost of IndiGo ranges between 5000-6500
Jet Airways 6000-10000
What I mean to say is when flights seems to be little costly for 3A and 2A travelers for passengers towards Delhi and there is limited options in trains when compared from trains via Shoranur and Mangalore, the only last resort for travelers like myself is go for Airline Route,
This is nothing but politics, when the railways were under UPA there were only trains, trains and trains and that too to their dearest states, just compare the trains to Delhi via Shoranur and when they were introduced one can know the difference.
Now during NDA rules there are no trains but infrastructure, amenities, Doubling, Electrification is on peak. Though one special AC Express train was introduced 04425/04426 but it should have been regularized with LHB coaches. Hope they do in next budget.
