JAIPUR: Commuters harried by long wait for Jaipur Metro will get some relief as the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has increased the number of trips between Mansarovar and Chandpole corridor to keep up with the demand.The JMRC has decided to increase number of trips to 170 from 134 trips that are being conducted in a day. As the number of trips are increased, metro train will be available in every 10 minutes after 8 am. The new schedule will be effective from June 22.A senior JMRC official said, “The metro operations start at 6.25 am every day. A total of 170 trips will be conducted in a day. The non-peak hours have been fixed from 6.25 am to 8 am.During this duration, trains will be available after a gap of 15 minutes. After 8 am to 9.20 pm (till the time operation is on) trains would be available in every...
10 minutes.Currently, trains run for nearly 15 hours every day, out of which 4.45 hours have been chosen as peak hours. Now, the JMRC has fixed 1.35 hours as non-peak hours.He added, “The JMRC will run a train every 15 minutes during non-peak hours and 10 minutes during peak hours.”There are nine stations on the 9.25-km Metro corridor. The train would run at 60 km per hour speed. From both the end, the trains will clock 23 minutes to complete the journey.The decision to increase the frequency was taken a recent passenger survey conducted by the JMRC. Majority of passengers travelling in Metro has demanded frequency should be reduced from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. The proposal was given nod by the by the CMD, JMRC.“Between 8 am to 5 am, commuters will have to pay non-peak hour fare. From 5 pm to 9.20 pm, peak hour fare would be imposed. To attract more commuters, JMRC is mulling a proposal to reduce non-peak hour fare. The proposal will be tabled in board of directors meeting,” said a senior official.
