High Power Committee gives nod for L179.57-crore project that includes a parking area and public plaza
CHENNAI: Shenoy Nagar Metro station is likely to get a new look after the state government gave a nod for vehicle parking and commercial development at a cost of `179.57 crore. It is the only underground station which has access to sunlight at the concourse level, which is eight metres below street level. The station will soon have a vehicular parking area, public plaza, passenger amenities and landscaping. The sanction was accorded after the Shenoy Nagar Underground Metro Station development project, Chennai Metro, was placed before a High Power Committee on Chennai Metro Rail Limited on March 8, 2017.

Nagar Metro station is the second largest underground station after Chennai Central Metro station. Located below Thiru Vi Ka Park in Shenoy Nagar, the metro station is in a prime area, surrounded by dense residential buildings, offices and other commercial spaces.
As per the plan, the total area of the park is 37,900 square metres. The proposed area covered by the vehicular parking at basement is 30,900 square metres and the area earmarked for property development is 30,900 square metres.
In addition, an extent of 4,800 square metres at ground level is earmarked for parking and an area of 29,000 square metres is earmarked for landscaping. According to Chennai Metro Rail, the total cost of the project, including the presentation of Detailed Project Report (DPR), is estimated to be H179.57 crore.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority will be provided an interest-free loan utilising the regularisation fee collected and deposited by (CMDA) in the government account. The net revenue earned from the project will be shared with Greater Chennai Corporation based on terms mutually agreed with Chennai Metro Rail. This metro rail station is also one of the few stations to have crossover facility which enables parking an additional train.
In a nutshell
●    Chennai Metro Rail to develop a space adjoining Shenoy Nagar Metro station and Thiru-Vi-Ka Park area costing H180 crore
●    This will include a vehicular parking area, public plaza, passenger amenities and landscape.
●    There is a plan to develop 29,000 square metres for landscaping

We may expect this to end as well, eventually, as the Govt. tightens these controls further. At IRI, we CANNOT waste any more time on this fruitless...
