Twitter users complained they had been waiting for a metro train on the magenta line for nearly an hour after rains in Delhi.
Delhi metro train services were disrupted during rush hours in the evening after a technical snag hit the Magenta line, the 24.82-km stretch between Kalkaji Mandir and Janakpuri West.
Services were affected for neary two-and-a-half hours due to a technical snag apparently due to rains, officials said. The Magenta Line connects Janakpuri West and Kalkaji Mandir.
metro officials said that services were disrupted around 4. 20 pm due to Overhead Electrification (OHE) problem on the line between RK Puram and IGI T1 Airport metro stations.
Commuters who were stranded for hours this evening poured in their anger on Twitter, blaming authorities for “mismanagement” :
@DelhiMetro_ All preparation of delhi metro failed and completely mismanagement by DMRC on Janakpuri - Botanical garden route. Total public discomfort, confusion and inconvenience due track mismanagement at T1 airport station.
@DelhiMetro_ Magenta line fails Monsoon test? Slight rain and operations affected. More than 2hra wasted. @HardeepSPuri @MoHUA_India @ArvindKejriwal
About 800 meters of lime to enter #sikanderpur metro station. Took 30 minutes to board. #dmrc high time to improve the ingress time of #delhimetro during peak hours. #delhi #dimts #satyendrakumar #delhigovernment #delhirains #ministryofroadtransportandhighways
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and union urban development minister Hardeep Singh Puri had inaugurated Magenta Line on May 29. With the inauguration, the entire Magenta Line became operational, connecting Botanical Garden in Noida with Janakpuri in west Delhi.
“Services were affected on the line due to some OHE (overhead electricity line) problem between R K Puram and IGI T-1 Airport stations around 04.10 pm. As a result, single-line operations were initially ran between the section,” a senior DMRC official said.
“Short loop services were run on both sides of the section i.e. Botanical Garden-R K Puram and IGI Airport-Janakpuri West,” the official said. Normal train services were restored on the Magenta Line around 6.40 pm, he said.
The Magenta Line has 16 stations — 14 underground and two elevated. Hauz Khas (with Yellow Line) and Janakpuri West (with Blue Line) stations are the interchange facilities on this corridor, besides the existing Kalkaji Mandir station (with Violet Line).
This section is the longest stretch to have opened so far in Delhi Metro’s Phase-III project.
With the opening of this stretch, the entire Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden Magenta Line corridor, covering the city’s arterial Outer Ring Road, has become operational.
The new corridor operates with 24 trains, which authorities say will be gradually increased to 26. The frequency of trains is 5 minutes and 15 seconds during peak hours through the whole section.

@all: At this time, the PNR Forum is functioning again, albeit at a greatly reduced volume and efficiency. Refreshing PNRs is a very cumbersome affair. We may expect this to end as well, eventually, as the Govt. tightens these controls further. At IRI, we CANNOT waste any more time on this fruitless...
