Hate train meals? Here's something that may placate your taste buds.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is all set to revamp its meals served on board 11 Rajdhani and 14 Duronto trains, four of which pass through Jharkhand, from Sunday.
While bland soup and not-so-popular sandwiches will vanish from the menu, juicy and boneless chicken and bhaji (stir-fried vegetables) will make hot debut. For sweet success of the new fare, an extra chocolate bar will be offered with breakfast.

Chandra, group general manager of IRCTC (eastern region), said the objective was to suit the palate of every passenger. "We often receive complaints about undercooked chicken. Many do not like the soup and sandwiches served on these premium trains. Hence, the changes which are minus additional charges," Chandra said, adding that the bhaji of carrots, green peas and cauliflower would be served with both lunch and dinner.
Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Bhubaneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Tatanagar, Howrah-Pune AC Duronto Express and Howrah-Mumbai AC Duronto Express (both via Tatanagar) charge between Rs 400 and Rs 600 for breakfast, lunch and dinner served to passengers.
Apart from menu revamp , the IRCTC is also introducing a host of service-related changes from July 15. Serving meals using trolleys and bio-degradable food trays with air-tight sealing are some of the new facilities passengers will witness on board Rajdhani and Duronto trains.
"The air-tight seal will keeping pests away and help maintain quality of food," he said, adding that every meal trolley would be equipped with hand sanitisers too.
The IRCTC has said that food bearers would be given new uniforms in phases and there would be an added impetus on their qualification and behaviour with passengers.
Last year, the catering wing of Indian Railways had roped in an external agency to do a survey of Rajdhani and Duronto trains. According to the survey, most passengers prefer regular meals against aircraft-like combo meals. Therefore, it combo meals have been struck off the list.
Businessman Ranjan Gupta, who frequently travels to New Delhi on Rajdhani, welcomed the menu move. "The decision to serve boneless chicken is great. Separating chicken from bone on a moving train is quite a challenge," he said.
Chotanagpur Passenger Association general secretary Arun Tiwari said the IRCTC should conduct regular surveys for passenger feedback.

@all: At this time, the PNR Forum is functioning again, albeit at a greatly reduced volume and efficiency. Refreshing PNRs is a very cumbersome affair. We may expect this to end as well, eventually, as the Govt. tightens these controls further. At IRI, we CANNOT waste any more time on this fruitless...
