In such a case, is it not better to adjust the timetable to reflect reality more accurately? Ideally one would have the train continue to be a superfast in deed as well as name, but from the perspective...

I'll say this, though. If this doesn't meet the bar for SF, the decent thing to do would be to derate this to M/Exp so that passengers aren't overcharged.
