You will have to pay more if you want to skip the queue at ticket counters. The Railway Board has approved hiking of fares for purchasing tickets from Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks (JTBS). Shops permitted to sell local train tickets have been permitted to sell it at Rs 2 more per ticket. Also behind every pass renewed, Rs 5 will be applicable. This is a way to give incentive for more agents to join the JTBS scheme and lessen the number of ticket windows at stations.
Around 10 days ago, the Railway Board in Delhi, has made amendments in the policy which will result in commuters paying more for the tickets purchased. According to the circular, the JTBS will be allowed

to collect commission of Rs 2 from passengers against every ticket bought. Until now, they used to charge Re 1 for the same.
This would mean that if a passenger buys a ticket worth Rs 5 for travelling on Churchgate to Mumbai Central or CSMT to Byculla; then he will pay Rs 7 one way and return would be Rs 14 for the same ticket. Buying season passes from JTBS will become more costlier affair.
The Railway Board has hiked the commission to Rs 5 per season pass renewed from the earlier Re 1 levied as service charge. "Over the past 12 years now, since this JTBS system was first introduced, standard of living has increased. We have only revised marginally," said a railway official on condition of anonymity.
At present, there has been a consistent demand from commuters who go to a JTBS agent to avoid standing in queue. On the Central railway, everyday 2.75 lakh tickets are sold from 350 different JTBS agents. This accounts for almost 17 percent of the total sales of tickets.
However the Western Railway is not doing that great with the JTBS scheme. There are barely 35 agents working under this scheme who sell around 60000 tickets daily as it accounts for less than 9 percent of total sales. Meanwhile the circular has also removed the need for having telephone connection before applying for JTBS scheme. They have also eased the rules on other parameters binding this scheme.
