PATNA: The Danapur division of East Central Railway has worked out a “crowd management” plan to handle rush of passengers during Chhath. The railways has decided to deploy its officials and RPF personnel to manage crowd at Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Pataliputra Junction and Danapur station from November 13 to 16. Danapur DRM Ranjan Prakash Thakur said RPF personnel have been asked to ensure formation of queues by passengers boarding general bogies of mail and express trains at these stations. “Railways has also deployed women RPF personnel at all major stations to help women passengers board trains comfortably,” he said, adding Danapur RPF commandant C M Mishra is personally monitoring the crowd management plan.Thakur said RPF men in plainclothes would be deployed at all platforms and circulating areas of Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal to keep a close watch on passengers. “Passengers’ rush will also be streamlined at Kiul, Lakhisarai,...

Hathidah, Mokama, Patna Sahib, Ara, Buxar and Dildarnagar stations,” he said.Railways has also decided not to change platform of any arriving or departing passenger train at the eleventh hour at Patna Junction to avert a stampede-like situation. “Cleanliness, lights, availability of water and supply of meals in all passenger trains are some of the other areas we are concentrating on,” the DRM said. According to Thakur, railways has asked essential category staff not to go on leave, except in case of emergency, during Diwali and Chhath. “Railways will ensure proper functioning of ticket booking counters at all stations during the rush period,” he said, adding station masters of crowded stations have been asked to make frequent announcements through public address system, warning people not to jump railway tracks.
