Move comes after the honeycomb scare at Trinity Junction The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will have a thorough safety audit of the entire Phase I after the recent security scare near Trinity Metro Station. With the honeycomb fixing operation almost completed, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara visited the spot on Monday. Later, he said that after the Trinity incident, he instructed the safety audit for the entire Phase 1 (spanning 42 km) from Baiyappanahalli to Mysore Road and Nagasandra to Yelachenahalli). Parameshwara said that though Metro officials were confident that there were no such problems in other stretches, the BMRCL didn’t want to take any chances. Sources said BMRCL already instructed its engineers to take up precautionary works to avoid honeycomb-type issues in Phase 11 works. Meanwhile, BMRCL officials said that they would undertake safety audit of the entire stretch once a year. However, following the Trinity junction incident,...

they would go for one more thorough investigation. An external agency would be selected to conduct the safety audit and the report submitted within three weeks.Meanwhile, the BMRCL officials said the honeycomb fixing was done at Trinity Junction and the trial tests would begin on Jan 1 (from morning to afternoon). During the trial tests, officials would inspect the work by travelling on Metro trains and the trains may be allowed to public afternoon. So, how much loss has been incurred by the Metro for the whole Trinity operation? Both Parameshwara and BMRCL MD Ajay Seth tried to dismiss it saying that they haven’t “lost much”. “It is true that we have hired BMTC buses to ferry passengers from Cubbon Road and MG Road stations to Baiyappanahalli. Apart from that, we haven’t incurred major losses (except the honey comb fixing work),” said an official. The honeycomb fixing operation was to end on December 30 and the trains were to be operated between MG Road and Indiranagar from December 31. However, on Sunday, Metro officials took a decision to postpone it by a day as signalling and track restoration work was pending.
