CHANDIGARH: Passengers travelling on the Unesco declared world heritage Kalka-Shimla section will soon be able to avail free Wi-Fi facility on all stations. According to sources, the work to provide free Wi-Fi facility at all 18 stations on the route has been approved and the Northern Railways division has estimated that the project will be executed with a budget of approximately Rs 50 crore.Another project, which is in the pipeline, is of constructing 3D digital museum to be set up in Shimla and Kalka. The division has already instructed the officials concerned to communicate with Google team and take necessary action for construction of the museum.Sources said Wi-Fi facility was a long pending demand of the passengers commuting on this section, especially foreign tourists. from Kalka, passes through Taksal, Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Tara Devi, Barog, Salogra, Totu (Jutogh), Summerhill and culminates at Shimla.Divisional railway manager (Ambala division) Dinesh Kumar said the Wi-Fi facility would be available at majority of the stations soon for the passengers. He added that they had already installed cables along the way and the the work would be completed by the railways.Sources added that directions in this regard were given by Union railway minister Piyush Goyal during his visit to Shimla in June last year. In one of the meetings he asked the railway authorities to chalk out a detail plan for this section. Officers in the meeting stated that at present an amount of Rs.6.8 crore was required to complete Mission 100 and Mission 60 works pertaining to Shimla and Ambala, respectively.
