Apr 14 (00:49)   Tired of train delays? Here's what railway is doing to make trains punctual

In a bid to make trains punctual, railways recently installed computerised water refilling systems at several stations. Northern Railway zone has ordered all railway divisions under it, to run trains on time.
New Delhi: Indian Railways is currently working on making its services better. The national transporter has not only made travelling a lot safer by eliminating a majority of the unmanned level crossings on broad gauge network, but it has also upgraded its infrastructure to provide all sorts of modern amenities to railway passengers.
For years now, a lot of people have

been complaining about train delays. In fact, in a bid to make trains punctual, railways recently installed computerised water refilling systems at several stations. While earlier it took more than 1 hour 30 minutes to refill a 20-24 coach-long train, now, with the computerised water refilling system in place, the project takes 5-7 minutes maximum.
Railways has also introduced hoverboards at multiple stations across the country to improve the mobility of the staff working at the station. A concept of 'Rapid C&W' has been evolved at stations by providing Hover Board to ride on and for attending situations for maintaining punctuality as well as redressal of certain complaints.
Now, railways is taking one more step to make trains more punctual. As per a recent Dainik Jagran report, Railways is taking strict measures to reduce train delays. Northern Railway zone has ordered all railway divisions under its administration to run train operations according to the schedules.
The report mentioned that Northern Railways has ordered Delhi and Ambala railway divisions to achieve 90 per cent efficiency in terms of scheduled departures and arrivals. It has also ordered the station to follow the train timings schedule.
It may be noted that as per the official data, 2017-18 was the worst year of railways in terms of punctuality performance. A CAG report revealed that one of the main reasons for the delay is government's station redevelopment drive as it didn't leave enough space for trains on stations. Another main reason for delays was reported to be fewer washing pit lines and stabling lines.
The CAG report also pointed out that another important reason for the delay was the lack of basic infrastructure since the non-availability of path, lead to trains waiting at the outer signal or adjacent station till the platform is vacated by the other trains.
Worth mentioning here is that Indian Railways' website enquiry.indianrail.gov.in allows you to track your train and its arrival/departure status. You can check the list of all cancelled, delayed, rescheduled, and diverted trains as well. Another website enquiry.indianrail.gov.in has a feature 'IR Train Tracker'. It enables a passenger to check the real-time status of a train on India's map. One can even track their train through Railways' Rail Drishti platform.
