Vijayawada: Answering two questions in the Rajya Sabha on Friday and Saturday, railway minister Piyush Goyal blamed the Andhra Pradesh government for the delay in completing the doubling and electrification works at Machilipatnam-Vijayawada railway line. While Friday’s question was raised by TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, on Saturday TG Venkatesh raised a question. Venkatesh has recently joined the TDP from BJP.While Goyal admitted that the doubling works had started but could not be completed, on Saturday he gave a list of all railway electrification that is underway in the state of Andhra Pradesh.Sources say that a lot of works intended to be done on the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada line with the state government’s funds have been stalled.“The project is being executed on a 50-50 cost sharing basis between the state government and the ministry of railways. However, the project is getting delayed as AP has not yet deposited their share of around Rs...
306 crore to the railways,” Goyal said. He also added that the completion of the project in time mainly depends on timely deposition of funds by the state government. The expansion of rail network between Vijayawada and the coastal belt is expected to lead to socio-economic development. As it stands now, the Vijayawada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narsapur, Gudivada-Machilipatnam and the Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu railway lines are single and non-electrified sections. These single lines are not catering to the needs of the most populous areas of the state. In 2011-12, then UPA government had in its budget announced Rs 1428.70 crore for the development of these railway sections. Railway officials said that the work of the entire project is planned to be executed in 5 phases and so far 28.66 lakh cubic meters of earthwork has been completed. As many as 369 minor bridges have been completed in all five phases and work in another 54 Bridges is in various stages of progress. One major bridge has been completed in Phase -1 and work for four major bridges in progress. There is a target to complete all works at the section between Vijayawada and Moturu (Phase-1) by October, 2019. Sections between Gudivada and Machilipatnam (Phase-4), Bhimavaram and Narsapur (Phase-5) and Bhimavaram Town and Nidadavolu (Phase-3) are to be completed by January, 2020.Electrification work across the state is underway at Pagidipalli-Nallapadu, Guntakal-Bellary-Hospet, Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone, Chikjajur-Bellary, Dharmavaram-Pakala, Nandyal-Yerraguntla, Naupada-Gunupur and Tenali-Repalle.“Electrification of Gadwal-Dhone (100 route kilometers) railway line is passing through Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. It is part of Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone (excluding Umdangar-Mahboobnagar) 783 route kilometers electrification project sanctioned at a cost of Rs 664.50 crore,” Goyal said.

These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
