ALLAHABAD: Passengers travelling in sleeper coaches of Prayagraj express between Allahabad and New Delhi or back would soon be availing the facility of bedsheets, blanket, pillow, snacks etc as is provided in AC coaches.
A team of six budding engineers of 3rd and 2nd semester of MNNIT have come out with their plan under their registered 'start-up company' which has been given approval by the railway authorities of Allahabad division of North Central Railways (NCR).
As per the facility, which can be availed by the passengers on demand at the respective platform
from which the train departs at Allahabad or New Delhi. It can also be availed within the coach or through an app.
“We would be providing mink blankets with covers, bedsheet, pillow, hand towel, a bottle of mineral water, biscuit packet and sanitizer and a handy dustbin at a minimal cost of Rs 59”, said CEO of the start-up company Sonu Kumar Gupta.
He further added, it was during winter of 2017 when I was shivering while going to Delhi by and saw there were many who were in the same condition. The idea clicked me then and when I returned, out team started collecting feedback of the passengers of the train, would they like to have facilities like the one provided in AC coaches, at what cost etc.
These energetic entrepreneurs than wrote to the director of the institute who forwarded their request to railway officials.
As per the letter of Senior DME (carriage and wagon), dated November 12 (copy of which is with TOI) the railway officials have given their approval to the proposal for a trial period of two months, starting from when they so decide.
“We would be starting the project after our exams ending in December and this would be great opportunity for large number of unemployed youths who would be employed by us for maintaining the facility”, said Gupta. There is great potential in this project which would be expanded to other trains after the successful trail, he added.
To start with, the team has set a target of 100 passengers for which they would keep two helpers. For keeping the beddings and other items, that would be given to the passengers, the team would be booking the side lower first birth of the coach, informed Akash Kumar, another student of the institute who would be looking into marketing side of the company.
After the early two months, the passengers can book the facility through IRCTC portal, link of which would be uploaded by the competent authority, informed Kumar.
