If you see old Railway budgets..there was a project of SER in budget which was " Construction of 2 nos. new Island platforms at Hijli stn. along with other modernisation works to develop Hijli as a Satellite Terminal to Kharagpur". This project was in later Railway Budgets Dropped by RB or SER.
That earlier projects was with the vision that few EMU trains from Howrah to Kharagpur was to be Extended to Hijli.... and with these facilities many trains from Northeast side to South India was planned to be shifted from kharagpur to Hijli with removal of loco revarsal at kharagpur. kharagpur was scrapped by SER... and without proper development done at Hijli stn..many trains shifted from kharagpur to Hijli stn.

by SER. At present no work done at Hijli stn improvement with poor communication and many South bound trains including BBS Rajdhani diverted to Hijli.

I doubt whether these additional Platforms for running EMU trains will ever happen again in Hijli station. A project once Dropped by SER is very difficult that it will be taken up again.
Now 3rd line work between Kharagpur and Bhadrak is under progress. For 3rd line to pass through Hijli stn lets see from which Platform in Hijli station this 3rd line pases, as both ends of this station premise there is no additional Railway land to Construction of another line and there is people living in one side with pakka houses and IIT campus on another side. No Railway land on both sides to place another 3rd line. Most probably this 3rd line will get connected to any...

midd no- platform line i.e. extra lines at Hijli stn and a theough pass line it will be. If SER closes one loop line in middle and build 1 platform there then that's a different think. Lets see what happens work will start in January 2020 at Hijli stn, Tender already done. I am also scearching for the 3rd line layout at Hijli stn.
