MUMBAI: The proposed
line platform at
station will be at an elevated level—a first on the
(WR) corridor—once the route is extended from Goregaon to Borivli.
Harbour services
were extended till Goregaon in April 2018. A further extension is being planned under Mumbai Urban Transport Project 3-A at a cost of Rs 825.6 crore.
WR will execute the project and the corridor will come up on the western side of the existing tracks.
As of now, there are four platforms at Malad, two each catering to fast and slow corridors, both in up and down directions.
The elevated station will mostly be an island platform with a length of 300 metre and 10-metre width.
WR’s chief public relations officer Ravinder Bhakar said, “The Harbour line platform at Malad will be built at an elevated level because of the space crunch at this station. This is the only platform to be built at such a height; other three stations at Goregaon, Kandivli and Borivli will be at ground level.”
None of the platforms on Harbour line have been built at an elevated level on WR, unlike on CR which has four.
Bhakar said, “A few railway structures will require relocation. The existing foot over bridges will require extension for passenger integration.
Elevated ramps and escalators will be provided for easy interchange.”
WR will also have to dismantle a private two-storey building and the BMC foot over bridge to make way for a ramp and a viaduct. The viaduct will end before Kandivli station. Work on the project will be carried out without disturbing operations on the existing network.
The Harbour corridor, after crossing north of Goregaon, will take the ramp from the western side of existing tracks. The flyover at Malad will cost Rs 145 crore and Malad’s elevated station Rs 65 crore. The elevated corridor between Goregaan and Kandivli will be 2.6km long.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
