The following stations have Highest No. of Platforms:
1. Howrah - 23 PF's
2. Sealdah - 21 PF's
3. Mumbai CST - 18 PF's
4. New Delhi - 16 PF's
PRYJ is a 4 point busy junction excluding NYN & PCOI , out of them 2 of them require compulsary reversals. Also all freights have to go through PRYJ Jn as unlike CNB no byepass line present. Also unlike DDU PRYJ doesn't have a huge marshalling yard to manage freights. Thus only those trains stop at PRYJ which are absolutely necessary/
KGP in future can have 1 more platform maybe.
Can any station beat Howrah Jn in terms of Highest no of platforms?
Most trains do stop at Prayagraj except for few. Allahabad/Prayagraj is a big city and barring few trains, it has gotten it's fare share of trains. MTJ is technically the biggest junction in terms of numbers of tracks diverging in different directions. It has it's share of stopping trains and some trains do start/stop from here. I guess due to it's closeness to Agra, high profile trains skip it.
A conventional station, unlikely. I am not sure if SDAH could theoretically be fitted with two platforms making it equivalent to HWH; but for other stations, heavily unlikely.
A more plausible scenario is something that happens in Tokyo. High speed tracks and suburban tracks both converge onto the same station premises and hence, the station technically, becomes much grander than it actually is. Think, if Delhi Metro's NDLS station and Airport Express line were in NDLS campus itself; then it would also have hit twenty platforms easily. In the decades to
