This is basically Shram Shakti Express,right that is sent to Kota for a day journey due to I assume, lack of yard space at NDLS. Because for a journey of this duration, packing it full of SL, 3A,2A,1A is terribly un optimized. People would also prefer sitting style options, like CC, which are cheaper as well. But I guess that is not possible because it is just a leftover train after it's main RSA partner Shram Shakti Express.

It could have been easily extended towards Punjab , say for example towards Ludhiana via ROK. But IR chose Kota which actually requires a premium morning VB connection

I wonder why it wasn't just combined as Kota - Kanpur Express. Sure, it takes longer than Kota - Patna but combining might increase passenger occupancy for NDLS-KOTA leg. I think they didn't do it because that might compromise the number of vacant seats available in NDLS-CNB segment.

It's somewhat similar for GKP-Mailani Express as well. That train, despite being combined in one, essentially serves as an overnight train for passengers lying on loop line towards Gorakhpur. It empties at Lucknow and GN/SL coaches are filled with day passengers bound for Sitapur and beyond. The 3A coaches are mostly empty with only a few proper reserved passengers from before LJN.

I think it was Aishbagh - Ramnagar Express. It used to start from ASH at night, despite having Chair Car accomodation as well. Either case, it was a limited time run / as a special.
