A funny thing happened with an acquaintance of mine.

She had never boarded a long distance train alone before. She had to go towards Bombay side and had a 3A ticket in Kushinagar Express. Couple of folks went to the local station to drop her off[and personally see her into the train]. Kushinagar arrives at Babhnan before Avadh Express [another Bombay bound train]. That day, Kushinagar was delayed and Avadh Express arrived first. They stupidly put her in that train. They later claimed that there was no announcement and that there

was only announcement for a Barauni bound train[which they said was for LJN-BJU; Avadh Express also starts from BJU so they can miss it].

But what they can't miss is different terminals [both starting and ending points] and names of the two trains. Still, both proper educated folks, put her in the wrong train. Still, her 3A SL berth was empty and she traveled upto Gonda station where the TTE came and told her that she had boarded the wrong train. The Kushinagar by this time had caught up with Avadh Express and she could have theoretically changed at Gonda but she didn't. So, the TTE advised her to get down at Lucknow [where she knew folks] and then return next day. Kushinagar had already gone away ahead, so no chance of switching trains at Lucknow[Aishbagh].

I think the terminal change was announced sometime in advance and eithercase, a message would have gone to their phone. LKO and LJN both lie adjacent to each other [you exit LKO and at the side, LJN lies]. Many pax get confused even today about which Lucknow station to go to since the name is same.

But if you ask anyone [railway personnel or even ordinary folks], they would tell you the correct station and one can adjust easily even within 5 mins since the adjoining stations are so near.

One more incident, relatively recently, I recall was when a family boarded LJN-GKP ICE instead of Agra bound one [both stand next to each other on adjacent platforms with similar departure times but with DIFFERENT NAME PLATES]. I was standing at the door around Badshah Nagar [station in Lucknow] when I saw them waiting to deboard. I was surprised as to why someone would take the train for ~12 kms only.

A co passenger asked them and they replied that they wanted to go to Kanpur but instead boarded the Gorakhpur bound

one. They were atleast 3 in number and apparently, not one of them had bothered to read the name plate outside before hopping in.

On the contrary, I have seen people who don't have any clue as well but never miss a train because they keep asking folks where it'll go, much in advance.

I think the passengers had not travelled in any long distance trains before boarding a train they should atleast check which train is it.There can be of multiple train with same starting and ending point. So the announcements at every station should be clear and the passengers should be alert and warned about their trains and it's timing.I had seen this kind of same thing while returning from SMVT Bengaluru to Howrah by Duronto Express, one passenger boarded in our Duronto Express from Bhubaneswar and he was trying to find his S3 thinking that this is the correct Duronto he boarded.Actually his seat number was showing S3 52 which was our seat i.e.,my father was seating. So I had asked him to provide his ticket, they I saw that his ticket is in Puri-Sealdah Duronto from Bhubaneswar to Sealdah and seat number was S3 52. Actually our SMVB-HWH Duronto express was 40+ hours late due...

to late arrival at SMVB(as it was diverted via VZM-TIG-R-G-NGP-BPQ-BZA Section due to Vizianagaram Rail accident in 2023 October),and so it was returning at the time of puri-sdah Duronto just 30 minutes before so that passengers mismatched with our train and boarded our train. He had not listened the announcements and even not seen the boards of the train just randomly boarded the train listening Duronto on announcement and calling someone unluckily the train has deboarded from BBS and after that we and our co-passengers checked his ticket and then we understood the matter, but the train has no stoppage between BBS and HWH so that he can board that Duronto even puri-sdah Duronto had no stoppage after BBS,it stops KGP and so he had to travel by this train only SMVB to HWH.So we had told him to see if the train gave unscheduled halt at JJKR/BHC/CTC then to deboard and take another train bcuz TTs were demanding quiet huge fines from unauthenticated passengers. So after observing he quietly moves to other coach,he doesn't give any reaction and after that I don't know maybe deboarding at JJKR when the train gave an unscheduled halt at JJKR or may have contacted TT but I am sure the TT will demand huge fines bcuz I have seen that only 2-3 same TTs were in this Duronto who were constantly checking or roaming in this train in total way from SMVB to HWH.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
