I was onboard 17057 Devagiri Express, B4. I was travelling between Secunderabad and Lingampalli on 11 January 2025. I was with my grandfather, who is an ex-railway employee and a pass-holder, so I did not have any sort of ticket. When the train was passing through Chandanagar, at around 4pm, there was a group of 3 kids on the platform. They seemed to be between the age of 12-15. Since the train had a yellow signal, it was moving slowly. One of those kids had a small tree branch hidden from sight by another kid. The third kid, standing ahead of the other two, was the one signalling his hands to the kid with the branch to hit and he swung it at me. I got hit by the branch since I was at the door. They were doing it on some previous coaches too, but I couldn't understand what they...

were doing until it was too late. They might have been looking to strike people with phones, but thankfully I wasn't holding mine. I tried complaining on Railmadad but I didn't have any PNR or UTS number, so I can't submit the complaint. Also, my grandfather was in SWR, Bangalore region so he couldn't help either. What can I do about this situation?

Firstly you should be having a valid ticket while travelling.

Being a pass holder does not mean that you are allowed to travel in train free of cost. That too in AC coach.

have to spend there hard earned money as fare for travelling in 3rd AC.

Secondly, yes the kids who attempted to snatch mobile from you, could have attacked a valid ticket holders as well. So you could have informed onboard RPF or other railway staff.

Useful
It was for intracity travel, 25km. Train was literally empty, all classes. It always runs 95% empty from Secunderabad to Lingampalli, which is the only distance we travelled. That is the only reason my grandfather told me it is okay without ticket. Every other time, I always get a ticket.

I didn't find any other onboard staff except OBHS, and they were of no help.

If this was such a short journey then most probably you will not find any RPF or onboard security staff.

Sadly such incidents cannot be reverted back but we can escalate the things so others will not be victim.

could have submitted a written complaint at your destination station and you did a brilliant work for sharing your experience with us. This thing make us alert.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
