management immediately dispatched a team to assess the situation. A team from the Dhansar Rescue Station was also called to measure the gas intensity and advise on sealing the air shaft. The team is working on mitigation measures. BCCL PO NB Trivedi appealed to residents near the Baseria crossing to stay away from the air shaft's boundary wall, assuring them that safety measures are being taken. The BCCL contacted the Simfer team and BIT to conduct a scientific investigation into the underground fire's extent. A four-member team from the Dhansar Rescue Station examined the gas and advised BCCL management to seal the air shaft. They warned that delayed filling of the air shaft could lead to increased fire intensity and spread. Subsequently, BCCL officials inspected the site of a ground subsidence that occurred three months ago near the Baseria Number 4 Durga temple. Officials indicated that they would take steps to limit the underground fire by dumping overburden (OB) near the temple to cut off oxygen supply. Retired Foreman In-charge Lalan Sharma, who served at Baseria Number 1 air shaft for years, stated that coal from the incline's three seams (top, bottom, and carriage) was extracted long ago. The air shaft was sealed with a boundary wall around it in approximately 2004 or 2005. Residents Sunil Yadav and Bambam Yadav reported that a faint gas odor had been emanating from the air shaft for the past two days, and on Sunday, a loud bang accompanied the release of a large amount of gas, turning the air noxious.
