Apr 03 2017 (07:19)   Rail travellers oppose proposal

South Western Railway’s proposal to divert two existing trains – Bengaluru-Karwar/Kannur and Yeshwantpur-Karwar – to the newly commissioned Bengaluru-Hassan line has not gone down well with rail users.
SWR, in letters to Railway Users’ Committee members, had said the diversion would drastically reduce the distance between Bengaluru and Mangaluru and also save travel time. Train Nos. 16517/518 and 16523/524 Bengaluru-Kannur/Karwar-Bengaluru and Train No. 16515/516 Yeshwantpur-Karwar run via Mysuru and Arsikere respectively.
Pradeep Kumar, a traveller from Mysuru, told The Hindu that the diversion of the Karwar/Kannur express would affect residents of Mysuru and
surrounding areas as it is the only connecting train to Udupi and Karwar. “Let the SWR introduce a new train via the newly commissioned line,” he said.
Vinay Kumar, from Kadur, a member of SWR’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, said if the Yeshwantpur-Karwar day train is to be diverted via the new line, travellers between Tumakuru and Arsikere should be provided a connecting service to the train.

South Western Railway Zonal Passengers Welfare Committee secretary Rohit Jain has appealed to the Railways to announce special summer trains for the State.
In a memorandum submitted to South Western Railway general manager Pradeep Saxena here on Sunday, he said that Central Railway, Western Railway and Southern Railway had announced special trains on account of summer holidays.
But there were no trains from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi to places such as Jodhpur, Ajmer, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai and Coimbatore. So the Railway authorities should consider the issue seriously and announce special trains from
Karnataka, the release added.

Feb 11 2016 (07:30)   Extend rail services to Vijayapura, demands samiti

rdb*^   131692 news posts
Entry# 1735881   News Entry# 256820         Tags   Past Edits
The Railway Horata Samiti of the district has demanded that the Ministry of Railways extend some of the train services to Vijayapura and has urged the Union Government to announce the same in the upcoming railway budget.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was not planning to introduce new trains in his budget, Vishwanath Bhavi, president of the samiti, has stated in a release.
Hence, Mr. Suresh Prabhu should extend the services of trains already operating, he added.
Bhavi said that since 2014, Solapur has trains directly to Mumbai six days a week.
The train starts from Solapur at 8:30 p.m. and reaches Mumbai at 6 a.m. For long, the Samiti has been demanding that the Union government start the train from Vijayapura instead of Solapur, as there is no direct train to Mumbai from here.
Instead of starting the train at 8:30 p.m. from Solapur, the same train could be started from Vijayapura at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Bhavi said that with certain changes, it is easy for the railways to extend this facility to Vijayapura.
Mr. Bhavi urged the government to meet the long pending demand of reducing the journey hours of the Gol Gumbaz Express to ensure that the train reaches Bengaluru and Mysuru at least two hours earlier compared to the present timings.
He also urged the Railway Ministry to make the train a 24-bogie train to accommodate more passengers, the press release added.
