I don't know if any one has noticed it...but there is a shortage of WAP 5 locos in ECR. I haven't seen one on this route. It is the best loco after WAP 7 and WAG 9. But Although ECR has many WAP 7 and WAP4 at their disposal, No WAP5..I would like to see one...great acceleration..probably the best.

Bro its very simple....
Firstly, For pulling a train against a gradient u need extra power for which bankers are attached.
If you want to witness come to Pune - Mumbai or Mumbai - BSL NK route... You will actually see what a gradient it is...
Secondly, though WAP5 has a higher HP output but it doesnot matter... For Ghats u need high tractive
efforts... WAP5 is light in weight, have only 4 axles hence the adhesive force is less... This has been taken care in WAP7 which have high Tractive effort... WAP4 has also better adhesion to tracks as it has 6 axles...
There have been cases where while hauling Mumbai Rajdhani with 21 coaches at a speed of 130kmph, WAP5 had wheel slip... Immidiately its power was switched to WAP7 which has a higher tractive effort, a better adhesion and also higher HP output....
Having said that, WAP5 is a king where load is 17-18 coaches on flats plains and is not suited for steep gradients and higher loads...

bankers required some times.. I have seen many pics hauling with bankers on Karjat-pune route.. there is a slop so if any loco carrying 24 coaches train and running on this track.. break down from mid than rest coaches wouldn't stop and come back .. that's y they give banker

Loco link allocation is very complicated process. WAP5 locos are based only in 2 loco sheds - BRC and GZB. ECR has got only WAP4's, no WAP7's.
WAP7 locos enter ECR because trains like Rajdhanis, SDAH/HWH Duronto, Poorva SF etc get a WAP7 from ER (HWH) or NR (GZB).
Trains like Chennai Rajdhani, Chennai Duronto, NDLS PDY SF, DEE YPR Duronto used to get WAP5 when their link allocation was from GZB shed (NR). Now they get LGD (SCR) WAP7.
PDY Exp stopped getting P5 since the LPs at MS weren't trained to handle 3 phase locos. Hence loco change used to take place at MS. Now, it gets a GZB WAP4 regularly.
Let IR decide which loco is to be provided based on availability, working, crew, etc.

Got it Guys , I was wrong about WAP5...But not about WAP4 or WAP7..If this train gets either P4 or wont require a banker anywhere on its route.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
