Feb 02 2016 (12:39)   Chengalpet line to Arakkonam gets Rs 30cr fund

CHENNAI: In what is expected to be a boost for suburban railway commuters, the last leg of a key line linking Chengalpet and Arakkonam stations, lying unfinished for more than two years, will now be completed within a year.
The project had been pending as the defence ministry had not released `30 crore to Southern Railway. The Navy raised objections against electrification of the railway line from Thakkolam to Arakkonam on the stretch, saying it would cause safety issues for INS Rajali which borders railway tracks in that region.
As a compromise, the
railways and navy had agreed on an alternate line to Arakkonam from Tirumalpur station and the defence ministry agreed to pay `60 crore. Half of it was paid and Southern Railway completed land acquisition and other pre-construction work in September 2014. Even contractors for laying the 10 km track were identified before the project stalled.
After TOI highlighted the issue in November last year, the passengers association concerned petitioned the defence ministry with the help of the state BJP . On January 12, the defence ministry in a letter, a copy of which is with TOI, sanctioned the amount.
A Southern Railway official said the money is expected to arrive in a few days and the work likely to be completed in a year. "We will be able to operate suburban services in a loop (Chennai Beach-Chengalpet-Arakkonam-Chennai Central) after the line is completed," he said.

In this 10km line Electrification is pending... I think they also double the line.
This helps us to start trains from TBM - CGL - AJJ to KCVL/ KCG / YPR / MAQ / DR / LTT

Thank you for ur reply!! SR may run more train in this route! But unfortunately CGL-AJJ has single track hence a train(infact EMUs) need to wait in a station until the opposite train crossed. To run more trains SR should double the BG line between CGL-AJJ

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
