i have heard that now one can show e-ticket on mobile to tte in train instead of carrying print out of the same.
is it true?

Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) - The printout in standard specified Performa containing reservation particulars, and instructions for use which can be used by the passenger along with the relevant authorizedIdentification, as travel authority for performing the journey.
Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) - A screen-shot of the e-ticket displayed through laptops/palmtops/ Mobile phone is referred as Virtual Reservation Message (VRM).
ERS/VRM along with any one of the eight prescribed ID proofs in original and the indication of the passenger(s)' name(s) in the Reservation Chart will authorize the passenger to travel.
combined with valid photo-id in original will be treated as an instrument on par with the ERS.
ERS/VRM along with one of the eight prescribed proofs of identity in original will also authorize the passenger to enter the platform on the day of journey and he/she will not be required to purchase platform ticket. ERS/VRM along with original id proof will be required to be produced on demand of Ticket Checking Staff on the platform.

it is like instead of taking print out of ticket and showing, show the same from mobile, laptop,ipad.

thanks to all members for replying.
this is a good move taken by railways as this would not only save paper but makes it convenient for passengers as well since now they would not have to take care of print outs of e tickets.

I am having confirm ticket till ahmedabad, but now i want to travel further till abu road.
Will i be fined for ticketless travelling or the TTE can extend my ticket till abu. will i need to bribe him? I mean is there a rule regarding extension of ticket. My ticket is PRS not a e-ticket.
Pls help its urgent

no need for any bribe my friend. as per rule, you can extend your ticket by paying for extra distance traveled.

dear friends
I use irctc to book tickets and pay amount through my bank.however, now when i book ticket, payment gets debited from my account and then the transaction fails while going back to irctc website. i have tried three times without luck.
kindly let me know if there is problem in the website or something else.

i have a broadband connection and i do not refresh or open multiple windows specially when transaction is in progress. so i am wondering where things are going wrong.
three times this has happened. i know that money would be refunded but i am unable to get tickets. that is the major problem.

Please wait for some time if possible and relogin,may be some technical glitch.
also make sure as you said please try to book without choosing berth preference,may be its not available and that's why tickets are not getting confirmed.
try removing cookies and temprory files.
this has happened to me as well in past and have to try later.
