Calculate Speed of Train:
U can calculate the speed of ur train. All u'll need is a mobile phone & a window seat. From the window watch out for the numbered white stones alongside d track. The distance btwn 2 stones is 100 m. Just measure time taken by the train from 1 stone to other using stopwatch. Now divide 360 by the time u got on stopwatch, u'll get speed in km/hr.
E.g. If u get 4 sec, then divide 360 by 4.
360/4=90
...

Which is 90 km/hr.
its simple maths..
Try n Enjoy...
(N dis wrks only during daytime:D...)

I calculate Speed by this way with my Mobile and it's Stop watch.
I start my stop watch by seeing electric pole think it is 68/8 and stops my Stop watch at 69/8. Total 1km journey and it completed 1km run in 28 secs. Then do it like this 60/28 and you will get the answer as 2.1428. Now multiply that answer with 60 and will get the speed of the moving train as 128.5 km/hr.

Yes. I had been using this method since many years. Good to see it here. To be more precised, we can calculate for 500m or 1000m. Because, there will be some errors while we start and stop the timer. So if you take it for >500m, it will have more precision. But sometimes, driver may slow down within that time when you calculate it for >500m

Kharagpur has the longest platform in the world and in India.
The 2nd longest platform in India is said to be on Sonepur railway station, Sonepur, Bihar.
The lengths of these two are,
1.Kharagpur, West Bengal, India: 1,072 m (3,517 ft)
2.Sonepur
...
railway station, Sonepur, Bihar, India: 738 m (2,421 ft)
But, Daund Jn.(Daund, Maharashtra) has platform no. 1 & 2 combined with an approximate length of 901 m.
The image from Google Maps shows the approximate length of Daund Jn. platform 1 & 2 combined.

Just see the length of pf. no.1 and 2 of Gorakhpur Junction. Both are combined and I guess it should be second longest.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
