''Please go to a PRS 24 hours prior to the starting time of the train from source. Carry ID card in case of E Ticket. Give an application to change the boarding. You can change the boarding point to any station which falls between your destination. The rule says it has to be done from the station where the ticket is purchased from, but I have done it at other stations and for internet booked tickets it can be done at any PRS. The rule as it is mentioned in indianrail is:
A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made atleast 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train
from the starting station.
The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.
No refund will be permissible for the portion of journey not performed by the passenger.''

There are two different things, while booking online, you can choose a boarding point which is different from the station from which you are booking. That facility is available online.
But once you have booked a ticket, change in baording point is not possible online. You have to go to reservation counter and do that.

Sorry please ignore my earlier posting. This link is the IRCTC help page for bookiing e tickets: click here
Please scroll doen a page on it till you come to the Ticket reservation page... you will see boarding point there... When you actually purchase the ticket on this page you will find a dropdown menu with all the intermediate sections. You can choose one

in irctc, when u click "book",
then another page displays where u have to input ur name.
at the top of the page, there is a box for boarding point.
u can change boarding point from the list of intermediate stns.
remember, change of boarding point will book tickets according to the availability position at the boarding point.
first confirm the availability from the boarding point

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
