Rail Fanning

Greetings everyone. I have a technical question, not sure if "Rail Fanning" is the correct category to use though...
Banker locomotives are used on gradients for safety and operational reasons. Amongst operational reasons, one is to help the leading loco up a gradient at a certain speed, which would otherwise not have been possible.
What if, a banker locomotive is attached to a train that is running on a flat terrain, say on the Delhi to Kanpur track. Will this locomotive not be able to help a train accelerate faster as it starts
from a station? I.e. the top speed can be reached in shorter duration of time. Similar performance when stopping, the train could stop over a relatively shorter distance. Doing this could increase the average speed of the train, especially passenger trains that have to start and stop often. Also freight trains could see improvements.
Can someone give technical gyan on why this is not possible, or not done by the Railways? Thank you.

This cannot be possible because :-
1. Dire shortage of locomotives in IR.
2. Locomotives used as bankers are usually those locomotives which are no longer in the condition to used in single. Running higher speeds with those is simply out of question.
3. Locomotives must be characteristically compliant to each other and not just be MUed units. For example if you add a
passenger class to a goods class loco, due to much larger torque the intial acceleration will be terrific. However the locomotives will fall out of sync soon due to inherent differences between them. For example during the intial accleration sequence the goods loco will dominate while the higher speed runs will be dominated by the passenger loco.
4. Incase you managed to add up the same loco classes as bankers, then your train essentially turns into a MEMU, this might work, as principally that is how EMUs and MEMUs work!

similar experiment already done with 12015/16 NDLS-Ajmer Shatabdi where locomotive used in both directions . In result the time was reduced nearly 20 mins in 440 km journey. As the time reduced was not good, so railway drop this idea.
As the distance between stations are less and between them also so many TSR and PSR , so fast acceleration and retardation are not good because there will be too much jerking.

Thank you for this detailed input. Really appreciate it.
If first generation ICE trains (like the one pictured) can do this since ages in Germany, providing comfortable (jerk-free) rides at much higher speeds, surely this should be possible here as well. Could these not just be technical challenges that can be overcome. Personally, I think that a saving of 20 minutes is worth it. If other trains are also "upgraded", there shall be an all round knock on effect, resulting in greater time savings.

as 20 mins are worth ... but at the cost of loco+440km diesel , 20 mins are not looks worth ...
to overcome this , IR is planning to roll out train-set/upgrade version of MEMU which can run @160kmph in 2019
hope it is solution of your query on electric line (but i have no solution on diesel line)

The travel time can reduce easily by two three hours. Overall running like a passenger, lot of slack time.
Within few months, can travel from Kengeri to Bypanahalli in Metro. Hope so. Can save lot of travel time/traffic jam.
