Recently asked me question related to booking of unreserved ticket (for minors/children). I realised I can't find a way to book ticket for a child (together with, let's say, her parents) on irctc site where parent don't want to take reservation for the child. For instance, if child is just 6 yr old and parent decide, she can share berth with her mother, they still have to buy reservation for child if trying to book online. Is my observation true? Or are we supposed to buy such tickets from station itself??

As per rules, once the child completes 5 years, a journey ticket should be bought, irrespective of whether the child uses the allotted berth or not. You can book tickets for child, as you do for adults, through IRCTC too.

I get the fact that ticket is required for a child older than 5. My question is can you buy such unreserved ticket online for say AC Sleeper or AC3 coach. If I buy online, I would be buying a reserved ticket - even for a kid!!

Strictly if you buy an unreserved ticket for a child from counter, the child cannot travel with you in the reserved compartment of any class. There is no question of your adjusting

I traveled with family on 4th Apr from Delhi Cantt to Jodhpur. We were booked on HA1 coach (AC 2 tier seats). Train was delayed by 35 minutes while starting from Delhi. It had rats and cockroaches running at night amongst seats and we received soiled bed-sheets (marked with shoe imprints) - which were changed after complain but we rather didn't use them any more. Initially at station they announced train coming on platform 1 but 1 hour prior to train reaching it was changed to platform 3. During return journey on 7th Apr, AC were turned on only after train has started running, I always thought ACs are turned on a bit earlier to cool down the coaches. All in all a "great" journey. Would take Mandore Express next time.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
